THE ANSWERS TO OUR FOTO RUTA FAQs
Foto Ruta Santiago FAQs
Do I have to be a photographer to join you for a Foto Ruta tour?
Certainly NOT! Each and every one of our Foto Ruta tours are designed to accommodate all levels of experience.
Whether you know your shutter speeds from your aperture or if you're not quite sure where to start we will customise the workshop and tour to you and your capabilities.
All digital cameras, from smart phones to point and shoots to DSLRs are welcome.
Can my non-photography friend or companion also come on the tour?
Travel companions who are not interested in taking photos but would like to come along for the ride are welcome to join us for half the price of the tour.
Apart from photography tuition our tours are a creative and unique way to experience the city and our guides are experts on Santiago and its culture and best locations.
What is and isn't included in my tour?
All of our Foto Ruta Santiago photography tours include the guidance and tuition of your professional photographer and city expert. You will also receive a customised creative presentation, an image review and feedback session, photography e-pack, and a glass of wine or refreshment.
Meals, snacks, and private transportation are not included unless otherwise specified.
You are also required to bring your own camera equipment.
Is Santiago a safe city to take photos in?
Of all the South American capitals, it is normal to feel very safe in Santiago. However of course like in any large city, anywhere in the world, thieves do still operate.
We recommend you bring less rather than more equipment and always using a strap to secure your camera.
What if I need to cancel my Foto Ruta tour?
If you cancel within 1 week of the agreed tour date, you will receive a full refund.
No refunds are provided for cancellations within 1 week of the booking.
I'm a professional photographer, will I still benefit from Foto Ruta?
We believe that even professional photographers can learn from sharing ideas and getting feedback on their images, we certainly do.
Professionals can benefit from our comprehensive knowledge of Chile and its culture, which will have a positive influence on the subjects and context of your photographs.
We also help professionals save valuable time usually lost searching for the right locations, angles, and the best times of day to shoot.
So whether it is a companion, a guide or a translator you are looking for, get in touch!
What if it rains on the day of my tour?
Great photographs are possible in all kinds of weather (think umbrellas and puddle reflections!)
Luckily Santiago generally has an idyllic climate, however if it does rain Foto Ruta tours will not be cancelled.
We may, however, consider an alternate route for the tour. If the weather is totally unmanageable we will of course do our best to reschedule your tour.
Don't forget, when it does rain here in the city, it is usually snowing in the Andes, allowing for some fantastic photographs once the clouds disperse!
What camera equipment shall I bring with me on my tour?
All types of digital cameras are welcome on our photography experiences. If you are shooting with a DSLR and you have the option of various lenses, we always suggest you bring with you what you are comfortable carrying weight wise.
Whether it is your favourite go-to lens or you have one you are finding challenging, feel free to bring it along to experiment.
We also recommend, if possible, to carry your camera gear in a non-obvious camera bag.
Please contact us if you have more specific equipment questions.
What should I wear for my photography tour?
We recommend all our clients to wear comfortable shoes, to apply sunscreen, and even in the winter months it can be quite warm, so layers are always a good option!
Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us here if you have any further questions or queries.
The best day of our trip.
